My Birthday Weekend Part 2

I figured it was about time I put up "Part 2." Saturday on the 10th we got up to go snowboarding with our friends at Mt Hood Meadows. Megan was tired from the night before and nervous for another day of snowboarding so she was dragging getting up and ready to go. We were supposed to meet our friends at 9 at the ticket counter. By the time we got on the road, we knew that wouldn't happen. Our friends called and luckly they were running late too. We revised the time to meet to 9:15 and then to 9:30 when we realized that wouldn't work either.

We made it to the Meadows turn off to see a giant sign saying "Lot Full use HRM Lot." We were hoping to get to park in the main lot. We got to the HRM lot and realized that Megan left her boots at the Cabin. We got in line for the bus over to the main lodge and I had the genious idea to take the Hood River Express lift from there so I could meet our friends and then meet Megan at the rental shop to get her boots. When I got down to the lift line, I realized it was a bad idea.

The lift line was insane. It took me 45 min to get on the lift. Needless to say, our friends weren't waiting anymore and Megan had been waiting in the rental shop for a while wondering if I just ditched her. We got Megan some boots and headed to "Buttercup." Megan was doing really good. It probably helped that she had snowboarded all day the day before. We went to "Easy Rider" and she went down her first "Green Square" run. (Hills are rated Blue Circle, Green Square, and Black Diamond.) We spend the morning on Easy Rider then went in for lunch.

Some how we ended going to lunch at the same time as our friends and they saw us comming in. We ate lunch and Megan went back to Easy Rider with Leah and I went with Bryan and Kyle to Heather Canyon (Double Black Diamond). Even though we had a bad start, we had a great day on the mountain.

We went back to our friend's cabin later on in the evening. After a potato fight, Brindy got a hold of a whole baked potato and threw up later in the night. We had a good time hanging out trying to play Catch Phrase with 15 people and some other games.

We were exhausted Sunday. We just drove home and rested.

My Birthday Weekend Part 1

It's tough to have a better weekend even on your birthday. I took my birthday off (Jan 9th) and we went to Mt Hood. Emily and Chris rented a cabin and invited us to stay with them and go snowboarding. We went up Thursday night and went to Timberline Friday.

It's tough to get 8 people (4 of them kids) up and out the door early in a cabin that only has 1 bathroom. We didn't get out as early as I had hopped but since it was a Friday, it wasn't very crowded on the mountain. Chris Chained up his minivan right after Government Camp since the signs said "Chains Required." We ended up helping a group of girls with California License plates put on their chains too. Well Chris did it while I finished up his. I didn't chain up our Escape so we got there much quicker than Chris.

The weather was perfect. New snow and a sunny day. We all spent the morning on the "Bruno" lift at Timberline. Caitlin and Alyssa (My nieces ages 8 and 6) were snowboarding for the first time. They did surprisingly well although getting off the lift with them wasn't much fun. I would pretty much pick Caitlin up when we got off so I could get us out of the way.

After lunch, Chris and I left Megan and the Girls on the bunny hill and took on some real runs. Chris hadn't been snowboarding in almost a decade but he wasn't all that rusty. I did take him on a black diamond run without him realizing it.

That evening we went to the cabin where our friends were staying. Their cabin was smaller than ours and had around 12 people staying there. We played very loud game of "loaded questions" and Brindy (our Dog) had plenty of attention.
